DAMON STONEMinneapolis

Damon has been dancing his entire life, starting with vernacular Jazz/Blues first taught to him at the tender age of six by his grandmother. After nearly a decade of learning at the heels of his elders, he went on and eventually studied a score of different dance forms. In 1995 he came full circle to focus primarily on the history and styles of Swing and Blues as his family danced them, with a special focus on the Southern styles from the Mississippi Delta region. He has studied the development of vernacular Jazz/Blues dance across the United States, learning from a number of the original dancers. He is largely regarded as one of the foremost authorities on Blues idiom dance and has been interviewed as a dance historian in documentary and for radio. Damon has been a featured instructor at camps, festivals, and workshops across four continents.

With almost two decades of training and scene building, Jered has become a featured Instructor, Performer, and Competition Judge, spending the majority of the year traveling to events around the globe. His work as a Choreographer has also been presented before Frankie Manning, at dance competitions, and on theatre stages with large acclaim.

It is through his extensive study of the history, culture, and body movement, that he shares with his students how to create something expressive and – even more so – impressive on the dance floor.

In the classroom, both Leaders and Followers find an equal focus on what they can bring to their dancing to truly capture the Afro-American spirit and joy. From breaking down powerful technique, to coaxing out your personal style, students find that being in a class with Jered brings them to a higher level.

Jered also works tirelessly off the floor to raise dance awareness, such as via his Dance History Seminars, organizing major festivals such as MezzJelly Blues (over 15 years!), and other popular events.

Toronto’s Professional Distraction…this redhead knows how to make a crowd look her way!

When she’s not planning a bank heist, she’s shaking her tail feathers across Toronto’s stages. She’s well read and good in bed, and can school you on anything from Sherlock Holmes to jumping bones. She gets around, from Jamaica to Poland, from Hawaii to Montreal, and many places in between. Her appearances include a headlining position with Epic Win Burlesque in NYC, where she was dubbed ‘Canada’s Sexiest Nerdy Burly Star.’ and in 2015 she was voted Now Toronto’s Best Performance Artist.

Headmistress of the Toronto School of Burlesque by day (and night!) she also produces! When she’s not managing her monthly shows (Like the longest running TO show Reveal Me at the Rivoli), or curating her weekly night Bootleg Sugar, she’s running Toronto’s chapter of Naked Girls Reading or getting work done for the Burlesque Hall of Fame weekender (volunteer!), or for BurlyCon (go!). Redheads like being bossy.

If you can’t find her locally she’s probably touring again. Catch a glimpse on screen! Boasting appearances on national television (Bomb Girls, Degrassi, Dragon’s Den, Love Inc., ET Canada), or in short and feature films (The Cocksure Lads, Callgirl of Cthulhu, 11 Blocks) she’s no stranger to the camera. Internationally published as a Pin Up, she also can be found posing as an established bodypaint model or lifedrawing muse.

She throws knives, cracks whips, and plays with swords. They say there’s no rest for the wicked, so you’ll rarely catch her having a nap.

For more than a decade, Brooke has been hopping across Canada, the U.S., Europe, and Asia, dancing, djing, and teaching as she goes. She has been called an organic follower, accidentally creative, and a vagabond street dancer. She isn’t entirely sure what these all mean, but she’s proud of these labels nonetheless.

Brooke is known for classes that are unconventional, entertaining, and chock-full of good technique, historical tidbits, and new ideas. You can always count on full-bodied “scrumpditiliumptious” quality movement – the kind that you can really sink your feet into!

They love the songs. The artists. The dance. They will rock your Blues World!

A Passionate Group of Blues Fanatics

For the last two years, our DJs have rocked it so hard that we were mostly heartbroken by the idea of not having them around. And then we thought, self(ves), why so sad? You can just ask your Battle winners to rock your socks off again this year! And you can ask some of your oldest old skool DJ peeps to challenge your previous winners because... um... that'd throw a wrench in the wrinkle?!? So, we are extremely proud to present BATTLE REDUX... AGAIN..., the one where our Ultimate Blues Battle Heavyweight DJ Supreme Champ of the World (X2) return to once again rock your socks off and try to claim the 'Golden Glove' and title of something equally ridiculous in a DJ competition 'to the pain' that makes absolutely no sense and the winner is completely arbitrary! We can hardly wait!
